Many health professionals say that detoxes and cleanses aren’t truly necessary: if you eat healthily, avoid too much stress and try to at exercise moderately at least a couple times a week, your body does a good job of detoxing itself all on its own. That said, a detox or moderate cleanse can be a good way to start a healthier or more natural diet, to cut out foods that are high in fat or sugar, or to break out of a bad habit. Detoxes, cleanses, or fasts can be beneficial, just be sure to check with your doctor or other health professional before beginning anything. Also, be wary of any program that advertises unrealistic results, like huge weight loss in a very short amount of time, or anything that advocates extremes of any kind.
In particular, we like the idea of cleanses that makes you cut back on sugar intake or helps add fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet. Or instead of a cleanse, one could also choose to do a challenge - like a 21-day yoga and meditation challenge, where you aim to add at least 15 minutes of yoga and meditation into your daily routine for a full 21 days! The new year can be a chance to start fresh, get out of bad habits or start new good ones. Here's to a healthier 2015!
