Our founding father, giant of a man, passed away yesterday at 3:18am.
We like to think he's no longer suffering. Rest in peace. Looking for some extra motivation to start an exercise program like yoga? This new Public Service Announcement video clip out of the UK is an excellent way to get inspiration. The campaign is called “This Girl Can” and it’s aimed at many women who say they feel too out of shape to even start working out. It features real women of all sizes doing all kinds of exercise, no Photoshop or editing included. While we love yoga around here, we’re advocates for any kind of exercise at any intensity. So watch this, and get inspired!
Check out the powerful video clip here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aN7lt0CYwHg And see you soon on the mat! After any big holiday celebrations or at the start of the New Year, it’s tempting to feel the need to do a little cleanse or a detox. There are so many cleanses and fasts being advertised out there – how to know which one to choose, or if you need to do one at all?
Many health professionals say that detoxes and cleanses aren’t truly necessary: if you eat healthily, avoid too much stress and try to at exercise moderately at least a couple times a week, your body does a good job of detoxing itself all on its own. That said, a detox or moderate cleanse can be a good way to start a healthier or more natural diet, to cut out foods that are high in fat or sugar, or to break out of a bad habit. Detoxes, cleanses, or fasts can be beneficial, just be sure to check with your doctor or other health professional before beginning anything. Also, be wary of any program that advertises unrealistic results, like huge weight loss in a very short amount of time, or anything that advocates extremes of any kind. In particular, we like the idea of cleanses that makes you cut back on sugar intake or helps add fresh fruits and vegetables into your diet. Or instead of a cleanse, one could also choose to do a challenge - like a 21-day yoga and meditation challenge, where you aim to add at least 15 minutes of yoga and meditation into your daily routine for a full 21 days! The new year can be a chance to start fresh, get out of bad habits or start new good ones. Here's to a healthier 2015! Go-Go Bambini is an indoor playground and birthday party venue at Demspey Hill. Starting a yoga practice can be an intimidating thing for a beginner. But we know that anyone can do yoga, and everyone has to start somewhere. So, here are a few yoga tips for anyone looking to start a yoga practice.
-Choose the right yoga for you. There are so many different types of yoga, if you don’t like one type, give another one a try! Iyengar, Yin, Hatha, Vinyasa, Bikram…the list goes on! There’s a yoga type for any type, so don’t be discouraged if it takes a few tries to find the perfect fit! -Don’t worry if you can’t touch your toes in the first class. Yoga is a gradual process of lengthening and strengthening muscles, if you can’t touch your toes now, no worries! You’ll definitely be able to as your practice develops. -Take things slowly and listen to your body. Even if the yogis next to you are flowing into amazing poses, listen to where your body wants to go. You’ll get there slowly, but surely! -Go for the experience, not an end goal. Try to enjoy the calming experience of yoga one class at a time. All that said, the best tip for any beginner yogi is: get started!
